Ikwa mmadu (Part 2)

In last week's edition, we noted some of the prominence of cow across continents. This indicated that it is not only the Igbos that have placed some significance on cows.

It is good to note that apart from being one of the mammals, cows are important to man. In the past, some places used it as one of the major sources of transportation.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the following statistics indicate what importance that is placed on cows.

According to FAO 83% of milk used all over the world is produced by cattle; buffaloes produce 13%; goats produce 2% while camels produce 0.3%; the remaining 1.7% is produced by equines and yaks.
